I have used Balanced for just a few days but so far I like it a lot. I think that the authors intended that this be used to provide some non-work related balance in your life. However I find that it also works well for work related matters.
The thing that I see that is different from similar apps for monitoring work on user-defined repetitive tasks is that this app is structured in a way that gives you total flexibility to decide what you are going to do to advance the task every time you engage that task, without having to divide it into sub-tasks or redefining the task. So for example I have a task named "Work on Committee A Tasks." When that comes up to be worked on I can decide what it means and how much Im going to do for now. Once Ive done that much I can cross the task off the list (which doesnt delete it, it just moves it to the bottom if the list of repetitive tasks). Or I can decide to skip a task that has come up to the top of the list, which also moves it to the bottom of the list. For me the hardest part of engaging some tasks is getting started on them. This flexibility in the app allows me to at least get started with a task, and typically once Ive started I find that I end up doing more than I might have if I had set about from the beginning to accomplish all of what I did.
The app has other neat features such as a built-in algorithm that decides what should be at the top of your list depending on how frequently you indicated you want to work on each task. It also has some type of performance rating metrics which I havent gotten to yet. All in all it is very well done.
